Our aim is to contribute to the implementation of the principles of ecodesign and circular business development and promote new ways of thinking among Estonian designers and companies.
Although the eco-design should be a part of the organization’s overall design process and business strategy to maintain and improve their products and services, it is still not easily measured and managed with traditional methods. There are no universal standards for carrying out an audit that covers different ecodesign/circular design aspects in the organization. Therefore, there is a need for a systematic assessment approach to drive improvement of the eco-design process.
EcoDesign Audit has been developed by Sustainable Design Lab (SDL) of Estonian Academy of Arts as a part of the project “EcoDesign Circle: EcoDesign as a driver of innovation in the Baltic Sea Region”, partly funded by European Union Interreg Baltic Sea Region (BSR) programme. EcoDesign Audit is meant for small and medium size organizations (SMEs), design organizations and designers. The audit recommendations will help the organizations to establish the basis for moving forward with product and business development.
The current EcoDesign Audit methodology is based on knowldege and experiences of previous similar initiatives of Estonian Design Centre and Sustainable Design Lab in coaching companies in the design supports programmes (EDC stratedic design support programme Design Bulldozer).
