IDE:workshops

IDE

IDE: is a 2-hour product development workshop for students from the grades 9 to 12. Workshop enables them to realize their fresh and innovative ideas about how to make cycling safer, more comfortable and enjoyable. In the workshops the participants can try out for themselves how new products are born and what are the roles of engineer, designer and entrepreneur in the product development process.

In teams of five to six students they come up with an idea for a bicycle gadget. They analyse the target group of the gadget, plan the channels for marketing, develop the price, technical solution, materials and design. In the developing process they create a fast prototype of the new product, which will be attached to the bike and tried out with a test ride. The workshop finishes with a presentation of the gadgets and an analysis and feedback from the instructors.

The workshops have taken place in more than 30 schools all over Estonia where many fresh ideas have been born, which have a potential of becoming real products. For example students have created hand and feet warmers, blinkers, first aid kits, navigation devices, mini refrigerators, seat covers, etc.
